A Level

Given that a strong grade in A-Level Maths is essential for undergraduate degrees in Engineering, Economics, Computer Science, Physics, and other STEM subjects, it is no surprise that Mathematics has become the most popular A-Level by a landslide.

However, achieving the top grades (A and A*) is inherently more challenging than in most other subjects. This is because pupils studying Single Mathematics are competing directly with those studying Further Mathematics, who train for twice as many hours. For any student aiming for a top grade, a significantly greater investment of time in their Maths A-Level compared to their other subjects is, therefore, essential.

Enrolling in a parallel online course alongside school lessons has proven highly effective. It provides a dedicated space for students to revisit topics, reinforcing learning through spaced repetition and retrieval practice to embed knowledge into long-term memory. Students can also preview content ahead of their classes, allowing them to engage more deeply in school and focus immediately on applying skills to challenging Grade A/A* problem-solving questions.

Mr Armitage’s online A-Level course covers Pure, Mechanics, and Statistics content in a structured, well-planned sequence. This approach allows students to build on prior knowledge, cementing core concepts so they can apply them with confidence. The course runs from November in Year 12 through to May in Year 13, concluding just before the final exams.

How the Course Works:

  • Weekly Live Sessions: One-hour lessons are held weekly via Zoom.

  • Expert Instruction: Every session is prepared and delivered by Mr Armitage, who draws on his experience as Head of Mathematics at a leading independent London school.

  • Interactive Learning: Pupils are introduced to new concepts through worked examples and interactive teaching.

  • Consolidated Progress: Purposeful homework is assigned after each session to consolidate learning and ensure continuous mastery of the material.

FAQs

  • The course follows a clear two-year structure. In Year 12, pupils complete the entire Year 1 syllabus, studying all Pure content first before progressing to Applied (Statistics and Mechanics) in the final term. This sequence is then replicated in Year 13 to systematically cover the entire Year 2 curriculum.

  • The course content is aligned with the major UK exam boards, including Edexcel, AQA, and OCR (A). The teaching assumes all pupils are taking the option that includes both Statistics and Mechanics modules, which is the most common pathway.

  • Whilst it will be most beneficial for pupils to learn in a structured weekly session, we all know that there are reasons why one week might be impossible. For that reason, all lessons are recorded and can be emailed to you after the session, upon request.

  • After each session, pupils are sent a pack of problems (and solutions) to work through over the coming week. The content mirrors the lesson and is carefully selected to consolidate understanding and lock in long term learning. Optional videos will also be linked allowing pupils to follow similar examples if they get stuck. Additional work is set over holidays.

  • I will email you within 24 hours with information about next steps, this includes how to make payment to secure the space, and how to ensure that your child is all set up ready for the course to begin in November.

  • No. Only the first payment of £220 is required for the first half term. The next installment is due before the second half term block begins (though you are welcome to pay for the whole course in one transaction).

  • Yes, although it will be worth discussing the specifics of where your child is up to with their preparation and mapping out a plan to ensure that they cover all necessary content. Please get in touch using the form at the bottom of the page.
